🎨 Get yourself calm & centered - tidy up your area, turn on essential oil diffuser/light a candle, music, meditation/deep breaths

🎨Practice - especially if it’s new or a commission. Make a smaller, simplified version

🎨Step Away - if it’s not flowing freely, just walk away. Take a break or come back another day.

Progress. Not Perfection. It’s hard, I know. Eve

Progress. Not Perfection. It’s hard, I know. Every time I paint, I have to resist the voice in my head that says “This better look amazing!” and remember instead that my favorite paintings are the ones where I enjoyed the process. My head was in a calm place and I let each paint stroke emerge in a natural, unforced way.

It’s taken me years to remember that I paint best from a place of peace and curiosity. “Forcing it” just never works out. I’ve forced it many times and it ruins the experience.

Focusing on progress helps me relax and trust the process. If I paint for one hour and I can see and feel progress, I call that a successful practice. There is no perfect painting.

I love looking back at art that I made years ago. There are parts that bug me, lines I want to change, and compositions that make me cringe. I’m learning to just notice those things and smile, recognizing that each painting made me better. I learned so many things during the painting process of each one.

I’ve made progress and always will be on the road of progression. There is no end and that’s okay 💜
